In regard to “OMB directs agencies to close off most Internet links,” what of the thousands of smaller offices with private Internet connections that then use a virtual private network to connect to their agencies’ networks? Often they do not use the VPN to connect to the Internet, thus bypassing security controls. These connections are a security nightmare and usually bypass Einstein.

I thought there was this push for teleworking from home or regional centers. Today's workforce uses internet for some of their work.

I don't think those smaller connections are always "security nightmares" - our remote lab has an internet connection, with all traffic routed through a good firewall/vpn appliance to the main lab. A similar speed leased line would cost us 10 times more a month and we probably would not encrypt the data passed over it. What will this mandate get us?
